Er Laser in Tirana for Skin Renewal, Acne Scars and Texture

The Er 2940 nm laser is an ablative technology for controlled skin renewal and resurfacing. It may improve atrophic acne scars, uneven texture, visible pores, fine wrinkles and some superficial sun damage. At Eden Laser Clinic in Tirana, settings and treatment depth are tailored to the concern, phototype, area and recovery time the patient can accommodate.

Er differs from Erbium Glass, Nd and Pixel RF. Treatment selection therefore begins with a professional consultation rather than the technology name alone.

What is Er 2940 nm laser?

Er stands for erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet. The laser emits energy at a wavelength of 2940 nm, which is strongly absorbed by water in tissue. This allows controlled removal of microscopic skin layers and activates repair.

Because water absorbs it strongly, Er can provide precise ablation with less residual thermal injury than a traditional CO₂ laser. This does not mean no recovery: procedure intensity determines redness, peeling, crusting and healing time.

How it acts on water in the skin

Laser energy becomes heat in the water of the target layer. Tissue is removed controllably, and treated areas encourage re-epithelialisation and gradual collagen remodelling. Depth, energy, density and pass numbers are adjusted for each case.

Fractional Er and superficial treatment

Fractional treatment creates ablative microchannels separated by untreated skin that supports healing. A lighter treatment may target radiance and texture; more intensive settings may address more visible scars or wrinkles. Results and recovery differ between protocols.

What may Erbium laser improve?

Atrophic acne scars

Fractional Er may soften surface irregularities and gradually improve atrophic scars. Scar type matters: rolling, boxcar and ice-pick scars respond differently. Some cases need combined methods such as subcision, TCA CROSS, Dermapen or microneedle radiofrequency. Active acne should be controlled before focusing on scars.

For active acne, see ClearSkin acne treatment.

Fine wrinkles and sun damage

Controlled removal of superficial layers and subsequent regeneration may improve fine wrinkles, roughness and the appearance of sun-damaged skin. Deep wrinkles, volume loss or significant sagging may require another treatment or a combination.

Pores and uneven texture

Er may make the surface look smoother and pores less visible. Pores do not close permanently; oiliness, elasticity, acne and genetics also affect their appearance.

Selected superficial pigmentation

Some superficial pigment changes may improve during resurfacing. Every mark needs assessment first. Melasma behaves differently from solar lentigines and may recur or worsen after inflammation. Suspicious lesions must not receive cosmetic treatment without diagnosis.

For a pigmentation-focused plan, see Dye-VL treatment for melasma and pigmentation.

How is Er treatment performed at Eden Laser?

01

Consultation and preparation

The consultation assesses your concern, skin type and colour, pigmentation tendency, sun exposure, medication, herpes history and previous treatments. Standardised photographs may help track progress.

You may be asked to avoid tanning, irritating products or other procedures beforehand. Do not stop prescribed medicines without medical guidance. Tell the team about previous herpes in the treated area, as medical assessment may indicate preventive treatment.

02

During the procedure

The skin is cleaned and topical anaesthetic may be applied according to intensity and area. Pulses may feel hot or sting. Duration depends on the area and protocol. The Alma Er device allows individual settings, but the final protocol follows assessment.

03

Aftercare

Redness, heat, sensitivity, mild swelling, dryness, crusting or peeling may occur. Follow individual clinic instructions for cleansing, moisturising and protective products. Do not scratch or forcibly remove peeling skin.

Avoid sun, saunas, intense heat, pools and active products until the skin barrier recovers. Apply and reapply broad-spectrum sun protection as instructed. Contact the clinic for increasing pain, discharge, blisters, fever or other unusual signs.

Recovery and results

What to expect in the first days

Er has no single recovery time. Redness after very superficial treatment may settle within a few days. After fractional or more intensive resurfacing, peeling, crusting and redness may last several days or longer. Mild redness may persist after return to normal activities.

Actual recovery depends on depth, density, pass numbers, area, phototype and aftercare. The clinic provides a specific expectation once the protocol is chosen.

When results appear

Smoother, fresher-looking skin may be noticeable after initial healing. Collagen and scar improvements develop gradually over weeks and months. Results vary; no procedure completely eliminates every scar, pore or wrinkle.

How many sessions may be needed

Session numbers depend on the indication and intensity. A stronger protocol may need fewer sessions but more recovery; lighter protocols may be planned as a series. After consultation, patients receive a plan with intervals, expected recovery and realistic goals.

Who may be suitable, and when is it not recommended?

Er may be considered for atrophic acne scars, uneven texture, visible pores, fine wrinkles or superficial sun damage in people able to follow aftercare and sun protection.

Treatment may be postponed or unsuitable with active infection or herpes, open wounds, uncontrolled inflammation, recent tanning, poor wound healing or certain conditions and medicines. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, keloid history and phototypes with higher pigmentation risk need particular assessment. The treating professional makes an individual decision.

Er or another treatment?

Er versus CO₂ laser

Water absorbs Er more strongly, usually producing less residual thermal injury and potentially quicker healing with comparable protocols. CO₂ may provide deeper thermal effects and remodelling for selected wrinkles or scars, often with more recovery. The choice depends on the concern, phototype, required depth and acceptable recovery, rather than which is stronger.

Read more about CO₂ laser treatment.

Er versus Pixel RF

Er controllably removes microscopic skin layers; Pixel RF uses radiofrequency energy and is not a laser. Pixel RF may be considered for dermal remodelling or when a practitioner wishes to avoid targeting a laser chromophore. Some scars need combined methods.

Pixel Radiofrequency

Er versus Dermapen 4

Dermapen creates mechanical microchannels without laser ablation. It may allow a more gradual protocol and lighter recovery, but the choice depends on scar type and depth. See Dermapen 4 microneedling.

Er versus ClearLift

ClearLift is non-ablative and offers a gentler approach to skin quality. Er works on the surface through controlled ablation and usually needs more aftercare. See Harmony ClearLift treatment.

Why Eden Laser Clinic?

At Eden Laser Clinic, treatment begins with assessing skin and goals rather than a standard protocol for everyone. The team uses Alma Laser technology and adapts settings to the area, concern, phototype and acceptable recovery. Patients receive preparation, aftercare and follow-up guidance.

Frequently asked questions about Er laser

Is Er 2940 nm an ablative laser?

Yes. Water strongly absorbs Er 2940 nm, allowing controlled removal of microscopic skin layers. Protocols may be fractional or more superficial, so intensity and recovery vary.

Is Er the same as Erbium Glass?

No. Er works at 2940 nm and is ablative. Erbium Glass usually works around 1540–1570 nm and is non-ablative. Sharing the name Erbium does not make them the same technology.

What is facial Erbium laser used for?

It may address atrophic acne scars, uneven texture, visible pores, fine wrinkles and some superficial sun-related changes. The indication is confirmed during consultation.

Does it completely remove acne scars?

No. The aim is improved appearance and surface contour, not guaranteed elimination. Results depend on scar type, depth and age; combined treatments are often needed.

Does it treat active acne?

This page focuses on post-acne scars. Active acne usually needs stabilising first with a dedicated plan, such as ClearSkin or another professionally recommended treatment.

How long is recovery?

It depends on the protocol. Superficial treatment may cause a few days of redness and peeling; intensive settings may need longer recovery. Individual expectations are discussed beforehand.

Is treatment painful?

Heat, stinging or temporary burning may occur. Topical anaesthetic may be used according to area and intensity. Sensitivity varies between individuals.

How many sessions are needed?

There is no universal number. Scars, wrinkles, texture and lighter protocols do not necessarily need the same course. The plan follows assessment and skin response.

When are results visible?

Surface changes may appear after initial healing. Collagen remodelling and scar improvement develop gradually over weeks and months.

Er or CO₂: which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. Er usually causes less residual thermal injury; CO₂ may provide a deeper effect in selected cases. The concern, phototype and acceptable recovery guide the choice.

Can Er be performed in summer?

Ablative resurfacing requires strict sun avoidance and protection. Recent tanning or inability to avoid exposure may mean postponing treatment. Timing is determined individually.

Is it safe for dark skin?

Darker phototypes may have a higher risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation. This does not automatically rule out treatment, but requires careful selection, conservative settings and strict guidance.

Can I use retinol or acids after treatment?

Wait until the skin has healed and your practitioner allows you to resume. Active products used too early may increase irritation and complications.

What should I avoid after treatment?

Avoid sun exposure, intense heat, saunas, pools, scratching, manual peeling and irritating products for the instructed period. Follow the clinic’s individual protocol.
